Family cleared in JonBenet Ramsey's death

More than 12 years after JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered in her Colorado home, investigators say that newly discovered DNA evidence does not match any Ramsey family members or anyone in law enforcement DNA databases. The district attorney's office has apologized but is that enough to make up for all the suspicion and accusations endured by the Ramseys for so long?

Maybe I'm confused, but I was under the impression that a lot of the suspicion and accusations came directly from the media and the tabloids. I think at this point no one really cares anymore, if they ever cared to begin with. This has largely been a media infatuation, and the viewers have just been forcing a grin and bearing it. I just hope that this will finally end this media obsession about this case and move onto more important news.

The fact that any person just wants to basically "get past" trying to find the sick, perverted murderer of a sweet little girl shows the sad state of society. Kenneth Anderson, we're sorry to inconvenience you with the search for this monster, no, on second thought, we're not. To the police in Boulder I say keep it up. Get the scumbag!!!

Kenneth Anderson (above) has basically told us that he doesn't want to be inconvenienced by continuing the search for a monster that tortured, sexually assaulted, then murdered a 6 year old girl. What a great guy ole Ken must be.

I don't think it's been just the media. The cloud of suspicion that the parents did it hung over their heads and their son's for years. It likely hastened the death of the mother, and she died knowing that she had been accused of the horrible crime. Can you imagine trying to live with that kind of accusation? It is life-destroying. Remember all the vilification of the family during the aftermath?

It's good that a letter was sent, however tardy. Now perhaps the family can have some bit of peace. Do I think it's enough? No way. They have been tried and found guilty several times in the press, by the DA's office and the general public. They not only had to endure the murder of their daughter but each of them was killed one slash at a time by each new accusation.

Were I the Ramsey family I'd be talking to my attorneys.

This new evidence means that the man is still out there. If the media would jump on this news in the same manner that they did 12 years ago maybe they would find him. Especially if he's struck again and his DNA is on file somewhere. The Ramsey's( father and son) must be so relieved that they're no longer suspects but poor Patsy went to her grave an accused woman.

Yes, I agree that the publicity in this case is largely due to media hype, but I would like to add that all murder/missing person cases are important. Even though this happened over a decade ago, a family still cares and grieves and has suffered, and we should all respect that. To say that no one really cares anymore is not true. I personally find some relief in knowing they're one step closer to finding out what really happened because any case that grave deserves some attention.

This is ridiculous!!! The Ramseys have had to deal with years of suspicions based on the bungling of a group of inept police officers. Wonder how many other children have died by the hands of the same murderer. Most people would be devastated by just one of the issues the Ramseys had to deal with, think how horrible their lives have been dealing with all the issues starting with the murder of their only daughter, the accusations of themselves and their son of the murder, Patsy having to deal with the effects of cancer and treatments and the father and son having to deal with the death of their mother and wife. I sure hope that the department of corrections have better trained their people.

The sad thing about this whole case is that this little girl will never rest in peace until the maniac is found.
But we should all remember, they have never found the killer of Adam Walsh, so this case may never be solved, so sad.

The incompetence of the Boulder PD and prosecutor should be included in textbooks for both law and criminal justice for "WHAT NOT TO DO". Patsy Ramsey went to her grave with this hanging over her head. As a minimum, the DA and those in law enforcement in Boulder who had a hand in this case should be removed for incompetence. They are a postcard as to why one should not live in a LEFTIST COMMUNITY!

This is a travesty, and the entire dismal case lies at the feet of the Boulder PD and their DA. For Pete's sake, the child was murdered over 12 years ago!! SIX YEARS TO DETERMINE A DNA?? Patsy Ramsey went to her grave with this incompetence hanging over her head. And all the DA can say is 'sorry'??!!! If I recall, the same DA tried to get a lot of free PR initially, and she did not have a case. As a minimum, believe that those in the Boulder PD who had a hand in the debacle, and the DA should be removed -- not allowed to resign, but REMOVED! Some sort of signal needs to be sent that incompetence -- and people's lives -- cannot be manipulated by incompetents -- if you want confidence in the justice system! This should also be added to law and criminal justice textbooks regarding "WHAT NOT TO DO"! Believe this is also a suggestion that folks should be careful before moving to a LEFTIST COMMUNITY!!

Just what does this have to do with politics? This is just poor police work, and a DA's office that believed what they were being told because of a truly tragic set of circumstances. In case's like this, the parents are usual suspects and I bet statistically rightly so. Also DNA technology and testing quality has improved tremendously in 12 years. What the political make up of the community is is irrelevant, this happens in RIGHTY towns too. Just look at Tim Masters in Fort Collins.

I believe in a gut feeling as do millions of other people. Were we not taught that if it does not feel right, it probably isn/t? I see your point about the mother dying of the accusations, however, she died of cancer; not an accusation. She could have died from the guilt of knowing who actually did it. If you have looked into other cases, it would show you that most people do not give up a family member even though they know they are guilty, because they do not want to lose another family member. You also know that DNA can be planted or hidden. If I was a sicko person who was trying to fool someone, I certainly would be smart enough to not leave any evidence and I could sleep with some shmuck and get his dna to throw a curve ball, but because the false dna i obtained was from a nice guy, they would never be able to match it in the system which is where they appear to be now. I am not convinced of the families innocence yet, there is something wrong there. If I am wrong then god forgive me and I hope that her sould is at rest with her beautiful child, but the way they exploited her as a tiny girl shows how they could not possibly really have cared for her well being.

The fact that this is 'news' makes me very angry. Anyone with half a brain knew the Ramsey's couldn't have done what was done that poor child without leaving evidence. This investigation was bungled from the minute police entered the home of the Ramseys. The Boulder police should go down in the hall of shame. Their own arrogance refused to allow them to admit they were wrong. Rather than admit to sloppy police work, they let poor Patsy die without being vindicated in this horrible, shameful case.

Peg - the reason it didn't feel right was because the Boulder police said it didn't. There was never any evidence pointing to the Ramsey family. There's a huge difference in turning your child into a little beauty queen, however deplorable that is, and sexually molesting and strangling her. Two indedpendent investigators found and gave evidence to the police department pointing to an intruder, but they refused to consider it. "All we like sheep..."

I still cannot get past that L-O-N-G ransom note that was written in the house by someone who was in absolutely no hurry, obviously written after Jon Benet was killed. This person who wrote that note was in no fear of being discovered "in the act." It was a long, rambling note requesting an amount of money very surprisingly close to the amount of the Christmas bonus which John Ramsey had just received.

Except for this little problem, I could easily accept this newly found DNA and say Happy Day, solution found!!

Once again, this "DNA" evidence does not exonerate anyone, rather it might implicate someone else or an accomplice. Anyone who followed this case knows the DA has been friendly with the Ramsey's for years. This is one more PR effort to lessen the cloud of suspicion. But the DNA evidence was never good, never indicated a direct correlation with anything. We'll never know the exact circumstances or perpetrator of this, but most of the evidence and the weird fawning ransom note did appear to implicate the family. There was no vendetta; just a series of bizarre missteps by the DA's office and investigating officers failing to secure the crime scene. There was never any real motive established. The faked confession a few years ago elicited the same out-pouring. I hope that when Lacy leaves office, a more objective prosecutor may allow someone to solve the crime. I would posit she remains too close to the family.

True the media made this travesty, and it was thanks to a bunch of buffoons in the Boulder PD. This poor family has been tortured since day one. That little girl was everything to her parents and for her to be so brutality murdered in their own home while they slept...I cannot imagine the guilt and the "what if's" John and Patsy felt. That lovely little girl would be turning 18 this year, probably going to college this fall, if not for a madman, (who probably saw her on a float all of those years ago, who became fixated, obsessed), we would never have known the name JonBenet Patrica Ramsey. Maybe we would have heard of her if she became Miss America, as had been her mother's dream. I hope that the sick madman knows that they are finally closing in on him....May Patsy and her beloved daughter, rest in peace.

While Jon Benet's parents have been cleared of the actual murder, I believe they are still to blame for her death. They took a normal little girl and sexualized her by having her perform in pageants in full makeup and dyed hair wearing ridiculous costumes that made her look like a Vegas showgirl. She became a tempting target for the sick and perverted person who ended her life. I do not believe the murder would have happened if she had been allowed to just be normal.

Finsdallas: aside from your very weirdly mimicking the syntax of the "Ransom" note in your first post, and echoing the Ramsey-family talking points, as a matter of fact, I believe that molestation was not necessarily indicated by the autopsy. That was why the suspicions hung so heavily on the family--lack of motive and a hasty cover story were what caused suspicion to fall on them. The Ramsey's found the body, and contaminated the body evidence by relocating it, and by covering it with a blanket contaminated by other people. There was, thus, family evidence on the body (fibres, hair, etc.), but due to the relocation and contamination of the body evidence by the Ramsey's (who should have been removed from the premises before the investigation but weren't), it could never be used against them. So, that is why there has been years of suspicion. What if this "DNA evidence" came from an investigator, or someone who touched the blanket or clothing in a passing way? That should be relatively easy to pin down. But the DNA, as described, is indicative of nothing. And that's what is so frustrating still about the case.

It would be fare if Ramsy family files lawsuite to get YOUR money, taxpayers' money for all this fun that you have had while humiliating them.

I would love to find the guy who did, if daddy did not, because this guy can steal a child, and leave no imprints, in a fresh snow fall of 31/2+ inches, not one shoe print, not one,mmm/ We need this guy in Afghanistan, looking for OBL, he is good, real good! To bad her gutless father did do it, regardless of evidence bought and paid for!
